General Electric

GE Appliances & Lighting is a subsidiary of conglomerate General Electric and is one of the largest suppliers of appliances in the world. GE Appliances & Lighting operates at a number of locations, with its primary focus being at Appliance Park in Louisville, Ky., the 1,000-acre manufacturing campus created beginning in 151 that would eventually employ 25,000 full-time employees.

Beginning in the 1990s, however, GE Appliances & Lighting began moving production offshore, eventually leading to the closing of most production at Appliance Park. At the height of the Great Recession in 2009, GE Appliances & Lighting was even seeking to dispose of Appliance Park to raise needed cash.

Thereafter, however, GE Appliances & Lighting realized the wisdom in bringing durable goods manufacturing back to the U.S., leading the way in what has become a wave of similar decisions across America. This led GE Appliances & Lighting to restart operations at Appliance Park, and today Appliance Park is abuzz with activity.

When General Electric began restarting appliance production at its Appliance Park Campus in Louisville, Kentucky, it discovered Pack Mule, and the relationship has expanded dramatically since then.

  • Today, General Electric uses the full gamut of Pack Mule products at Appliance Park, as well as at numerous other of its appliance production facilities, such as GE Roper in Lafayette, Ga and . These include:
  • PMT-4500 and PMT-5000 tuggers for towing materials,
  • PC-300s and PC-325s for personnel carrying
  • SCT-7500s Stock Chaser/Tugger for towing materials,
  • Linked Steer Trailers for materials transport
  • SC-775 Stock Chasers for provisioning materials
  • BC-620 Burden Carriers for materials transport

At GE’s request, Pack Mule has made a number of product improvements which are now standard features or commonly requested options on Pack Mule products. These include the adjustable backrest on Pack Mule’s SCT Tugger/Stock Chaser and an option to raise the height of the hitch to reduce operator fatigue.

Welcome to the Amazing Rebirth of American Manufacturing at Appliance Park in Louisville, Ky.

GE Appliances & Lighting is but one of several GE family members that has come to depend on Pack Mule electric industrial vehicles and towable trailers to move both materials and personnel in mission critical applications in their multi-shift production facilities across the continent.

In September 2014, General Electric agreed to sell GE Appliances & Lighting to the Swedish appliance manufacturer Electrolux.
