PACK MULE VS TAYLOR-DUNN

Pack Mule SCT-7750 NXG (48 volt) vs. Taylor-Dunn SC-100 (48 volt)

FeaturePack MuleTaylor-DunnWhy it matters

Cargo Capacity

1,200 lbs.

1,000 lbs.

With 20% greater cargo capacity Pack Mule can carry more with every load. That means higher efficiency, fewer trips, and lower maintenance and labor costs.

Usable Deck Space

48" x 31.5" (1,512 sq. inches) standard with six optional sizes

49-5/16" x 29.5" (1448.5 sq. inches)

With Pack Mule, you get the most deck space and — six optional size upgrades.  (Taylor-Dunn claims their deck length is 58.5” but over 9” of that is not usable.)

Towing Capacity

5,000 lbs.

5,000 lbs.

Equal towing doesn’t necessarily mean equal productivity. Pack Mule’s significantly larger cargo capacity and standard AC power system means more work gets done every shift.

Motor

17.3 hp sealed A/C motor

8.8 hp separately excited, not sealed

Pack Mule’s more powerful sealed motor provides greater power and no possibility of anything getting caught in the motor. The A/C motor has no brushes to replace, eliminating motor maintenance.

Battery

245 amp/hour

217 amp/hour. Upgrade available.

Higher amps per hour increase runtime and battery life. Pack Mule provides almost 15% more amp hours. In field tests, Pack Mule provided 50% greater run time than Taylor-Dunn.

Steering

Heavy duty 1" steering pivot shaft and 1" front axle with tapered bearings and center support between front tires. Automotive-type steering wheel.

3/4" steering pivot shaft and 3/4" front axle with smaller bearings. "Clover" steering with an available upgrade to automotive-style steering wheel ($94)

Ease and precision of steering not only affect driver performance, but also safety, especially in close areas. Additionally, the more robust steering system greatly reduces downtime.

Cargo Deck Material

Melomine Laminated Decking

Painted Plywood Decking

Melomine lamination provides longer life and prevents early failure due to warping or splitting.

Braking

Programmable dual regenerative braking

Regenerative Braking

Pack Mule’s dual regenerative braking more efficiently harvests the kinetic energy created by the brakes to return to the batteries, increasing run time and reducing brake pad wear.

Tires

Heavy-duty, 6 ply Load Range C (90 psi). Dual front tires.

4-ply Load Range B (60 psi). Single front tire

Not only do Pack Mule’s heavier-duty tires increase load capacity, but their 90 psi inflation reduces rolling resistance, increasing the vehicle’s run time. The dual front tires provide increased stability and control.

Instrumentation

Smart View Display

Smart View Display

Provides management and maintenance information to accurately track vehicle usage so that preventative maintenance can be performed properly, decreasing machine failures.

Controller

Fully programmable, tamper-proof controller

Solid-state controller, not programmable

The programmable controller allows the vehicle’s performance characteristics to be set specifically to location requirements, improving operation and safety.

Ergonomic Matting

Standard

Not available. Upgrade available as part of the $315 "Comfort Kit."

Ergonomic matting increases operator comfort and reduces fatigue. This contributes to safer, more productive operation.

Fully-enclosed operator foot area

Standard

Not available

Increases operator safety as well as protecting the internal workings of the vehicle.

Adjustable Back Rest

Standard

Not Available

The adjustable backrest allows for a better backrest fit, reducing operator fatigue and increasing safety and productivity.

Steps on Backrest

Standard

Available as an upgrade ($191)

Let’s the operator move quickly and easily to hard-to-reach places, saving time and reducing operator fatigue.

Construction

Genuine heavy-duty 14-gauge diamond plate steel welded to a 10-gauge unibody frame.

Lighter-weight 16-gauge diamond plate steel.

Welded Heavier gauge steel means a safer, sturdier vehicle that will hold up in high-volume industrial applications.

Hitch Plate

Multi-position hitch plate

Single position hitch plate. No upgrade.

Pack Mule’s multi-position hitch plate allows hitch height to be adjusted to meet the specific application.

Warranty

Three-year warranty. No hours limitation.

Two-year or 2,000 hours, whichever comes first.

Pack Mule’s confidence in its quality allowed it to introduce the industry’s first (and only) three-year warranty.

How we compare the Pack Mule to the competition.

How we compare the Pack Mule to the competition.

We go to great lengths to make sure that our comparisons between Pack Mule vehicles and others are as fair and accurate as possible. It doesn’t serve anyone’s interests for those depending on the comparisons to be disappointed. Basically, here’s how we do them:

  1. We purchase competitor vehicles from time to time through authorized channels, usually a dealer, specifying standard equipment and asking for quotes on appropriate upgrades.
  2. The competitor vehicle is tested alongside the Pack Mule.
  3. Wherever possible, we use the specifications on the machine we purchased. When we need additional specs, we use the ones published on the competitor’s web site, in the quote we received from their authorized dealer or published in their user manuals.
  4. We frequently check to see if anything has changed. If it has, we immediately change the comparison, as we do when the competitor provides us documentation of a change.
  5. We offer to back our comparisons up with on-site demos. If you’re currently using another manufacturer’s electric industrial vehicle, we’ll provide a Pack Mule for you to do your own comparison.
