PACK MULE VS TAYLOR-DUNN

Pack Mule SC-775 NXG (24 volt) vs. Taylor-Dunn SC-90 (24 volt)

FeaturePack MuleTaylor-DunnWhy it matters

Cargo Capacity

1,200 lbs.

900 lbs.

The Pack Mule SC-775 gives you 33% more cargo capacity than the Taylor-Dunn SC-90, which means that the Pack Mule can carry more in a single trip, reducing the number of trips and increasing productivity.

Usable Deck Space

48" x 31.5" (1512 sq. inches) standard with six optional sizes

49 5/16" x 29.5" (1448 sq. inches)

With Pack Mule, you get the most deck space and — six optional size upgrades.  (Taylor-Dunn claims their deck length is 58.5” but over 9” of that is not usable.)

Towing Capacity

2,000 lbs. upgradable to 5,000 lbs.

2,000 lbs.

Equal towing doesn’t necessarily mean equal productivity. Because of Pack Mules greater cargo capacity and better energy management, Pack Mule gets more work done. And you have the option to upgrade to 5,000 lbs. towing if you need it.

Turning Radius

55"

67"

Pack Mule’s turning radius is a foot tighter than Taylor-Dunn’s. This means safer and easier maneuverability in tight places.

Motor

Sealed 9.6 hp A/C motor

3.8 hp series wound, not sealed

Pack Mule’s more powerful sealed A/C motor provides greater power and no possibility of anything getting caught in the motor. Since the A/C motor has no brushes to inspect and replace, it’s maintenance free.

Battery

245 amp/hour

210 amp/hour. Upgrade available at extra charge.

Higher amps per hour increase runtime and battery life. Pack Mule provides almost 17% more amp hours.

Cargo Deck Material

Melomine Laminated Decking

Painted Plywood Decking

Melomine lamination provides longer life and prevents early failure due to warping or splitting.

Steering

Precision Rack and Pin-ion Heavy Duty 1” steering pivot shaft. Front axle with tapered bearings and center support between front tires. Automotive-type steering wheel.

Chain Linkage ¾” Steering pivot shaft¾” front axle with smaller bearings. Clover-type steering. Upgrade to automotive-type steering wheel available. Single front wheel.

Ease and precision of steering not only affect driver performance, but also safety, especially in close areas. Additionally, the more robust steering system greatly reduces downtime, and Pack Mule’s dual front wheels increase stability and control.

Braking

Programmable dual regenerative braking

Rear drum brake

Regenerative braking converts energy created by braking and converts into energy for the battery. Pack Mule’s braking can be programmed to fit the specific needs of the application.

Tires

Heavy-duty, 6 ply Load Range C (90 psi). Dual front tires.

4-ply Load Range B (60 psi). Single front tire

Not only do Pack Mule’s heavier-duty tires increase load capacity, their 90-PSI inflation reduces rolling resistance, increasing the vehicle’s run time. The wide-stance tires provide greater stability and control.

Instrumentation

Standard Smart View meter,displaying battery-state-of-charge, hours, and fault codes;

Battery status indicator. Hour meter available as an upgrade.

Provides the information needed for the efficient use of the vehicle. Fault codes make trouble-shooting much more efficient.

Controller

Fully programmable, tamper-proof controller

Solid-state controller, not programmable

The progamable controller allows the vehicle’s performance characteristics to be set specifically to location requirements, improving operation and safety.

Programmable high-frequency charger

Standard

Not Available

The programmable charger optimizes run time and extends battery life.

Ergonomic Matting

Standard

Available as an upgrade

Ergonomic matting decreases operator fatigue and increases operator comfort.

Fully-enclosed Operator Foot Area

Frame and Body

10-Gauge steel unibody frame and heavy-duty 14-gauge genuine diamond plate body.

Lighter-weight 16-gauge diamond-plate body

Pack Mule’s more rugged construction means that it holds up better in heavy use applications.

Warranty

3-year warranty with no hours limitations.

Two-year or 2,000-Hours, whichever comes first.

Pack Mule’s confidence in its quality allowed it to introduce the industry’s first (and only) three-year warranty. And like some others, there’s no hours limitation.

How we compare the Pack Mule to the competition.

We go to great lengths to make sure that our comparisons between Pack Mule vehicles and others are as fair and accurate as possible. It doesn’t serve anyone’s interests for those depending on the comparisons to be disappointed. Basically, here’s how we do them:

  1. We purchase competitor vehicles from time to time through authorized channels, usually a dealer, specifying standard equipment and asking for quotes on appropriate upgrades.
  2. The competitor vehicle is tested alongside the Pack Mule.
  3. Wherever possible, we use the specifications on the machine we purchased. When we need additional specs, we use the ones published on the competitor’s web site, in the quote we received from their authorized dealer or published in their user manuals.
  4. We frequently check to see if anything has changed. If it has, we immediately change the comparison, as we do when the competitor provides us documentation of a change.
  5. We offer to back our comparisons up with on-site demos. If you’re currently using another manufacturer’s electric industrial vehicle, we’ll provide a Pack Mule for you to do your own comparison.
